Why do people gossip?

 

It can destroy your reputation. It can justify your behavior. For some, it is fun, for many, it is a ‘sin’.

According to anthropologists, ‘gossip’ is a phenomenon that is found in almost all cultures around the world, be it in the city or in a rural area.

“Everybody gossips in every culture, given their circumstances,” says Dr. Nicole Heijn-Hayes, an associate professor at Washington State University.
